I am checking out this fabulous new site and thought I would offer my two cents about the resort / hotel I enjoyed the most after my 5 visits to Grenada...
Obviously my vote is for the Flamboyant which is perched on the hillside above Grand Anse Beach....I have not stayed there since Evil Ivan however, I have read that it is in fantatic shape...but orignally we rented a cottage and had two full bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and full kitchen with dinning room, living room and a veranda that took our breath away. the veranda offered us sweeping views of the beach and St. Georges...yet away from any hustle and bustle - but to top it all off and in addition to the fantastic service we were within walking distance to great restaurants and two beaches!! If anyone has questions at any point about my stay at this fantastic hotel I will respond happily!

Hi Caribdreamn,
A big welcome to the new board. I recognized your ID and I am so happy you registered as a member. A few more members and we will have you answering lots of questions if you're game. We are already off to a good start. It all takes time before people will find the board. I trust you are thinking hard about getting back to Grenada and The Flamboyant Hotel soon. The new dining room must be just about finished by now, and they have a bar called The Owl on the premises just below the dining room. I had a few drinks in there one night and they told me they are open until 3 AM. I'm usually asleep by then, but you never know, it may come in handy on a sleepless night. Nice having you here.

Re: The Flamboyant
Hello Jim!
I am registered again but as Grenadaheart...and I am desperate to get back to Grenada - in fact we are trying to find appropriate accomodations for our 4 adults and 1 2.5 year old - because flights to GND are so complicated we are trying to stay affordably - any recommendations? Glad to be back again! Hopefully I can say the same about GND in January!!

Re: The Flamboyant
Hi Sheila,
The Flamboyant has raised its rates since you stayed there as you can see. I think you would be very happy in 2 rooms at the Grenada Grand Beach Hotel which usually does a reasonable package with Air Canada. It is on the exact centre of Grand Anse Beach with a fantastic pool and across the street from the Grand Anse Shopping Mall with supermarket et al. I would also highly recommend Blue Horizon Garden Resort. I took pictures there too although I haven't yet posted them. I was impressed and they have very nice cottages with kitchens in a pretty location. It is a beautiful resort with pool and close to everything. You can use the Spice Island Resort (5 min walk to the beach) facilities including the bar and beach chairs free, as the same family owns both resorts. If you want to save on the airfare, I suggest you call or email ian@romatravel.com Ian Grant at Rome Travel - (416) 654-2434 or Toll free: 1-800-493-6668. Either book an Air Canada package with him, or better still if you don't mind going through Barbados, book your airfare through him for BWIA (red-eye flight) from Toronto - BGI - GND. for about 40 % less than AC. It leaves YYZ at about midnight and gets into BGI at 6 AM Barbados time. You wait about an hour plus for LIAT and fly to GND. He would probably deliver the tickets to you personally since he lives in Oakville too. Ian Grant can usually get better prices for hotels than you can by going on the internet direct to the hotel. He is very knowledgeable about Grenada and he is a nice person with which to deal. (No commissions are paid to me for this commercial.) Air Canada we hope will fly again this year from Dec 18th/06 till End of March/07. They usually fly every Monday YYZ - GND direct non-stop and last year had packages with GGBR and Spice Island Beach Resort. I used them on Jan/06 and we took off at 9AM and flew for 5 hours, 10 min landing at GND at 2:15PM. Good luck, .

Re: The Flamboyant
Hello again - I am still cruising around your site here...I love it!!
I think I agree with you about Grenada Grand...I stayed there three times when it was the ....Radisson??? I gather it is a world better...I was totally astonished by the fact that Flamboyant is more expensive than the Grand...why?? What have they done? I have to be honest - I and another fellow Grenada traveller felt some resentment to this price hike... I have emailed your travel chum Ian regarding flights in January - however, I hadn't thought to ask about AC packages....I am going to have to use them aren't I??? I cant' stand AC on priniciple...but I can't live without GND... I look forward to your pictures...I am unable to access the photo gallery but I will keep checking!! Pray for GND and me there...hehehe Thanks again Jim

Hi Sheila,
I too am very miffed about many price hikes that the hotels and resorts have done. Just when they need to increase tourism, they push tourists away with heavy prices!!! I have put up messages which were sent to Brenda Hood, the Minister of Tourism, and she said on the radio that she would ask AC about this expensive airfare... I have heard or seen nothing. Surprise! I am also with you on AC because I was charged in Nov/05 for a flight on Jan 16, 2006 for 4 weeks, CDN$1,487.19 return YYZ to GND. That is twice what I usually pay due to Air Canada having no competition on direct flights to Grenada out of Canada during the winter season. I too have no love for that greedy bunch. Air Canada which used to be the best, is now an uncaring, money-grabbing corporation with no sense of what the customer needs or wants. We now get much less for many more dollars we put out to fly in economy torture tubes. Everyone should write to the marketing department of WestJet and plead, cajole, insist that they go direct to Grenada once a week at least. I have been doing that now for 4 months, but no takers yet. They need to get emails or letters from Grenadaphiles on this to convince them. They would fill every flight. The WestJet 737-600's are perfect for the flights and carry just the appropriate number of passengers (130) to make it profitable. There is no reason BWIA should not go direct either, except that they may not have available equipment due to most flights (about 8 per week) going direct from JFK. We have about 30,000 Grenadians living in the GTA and wanting to vacation with their families at home, but everyone is getting hosed by this R-Baron called Air Canada. The Photo Gallery is up and running since the weekend. I have emailed a notification to all members that the Gallery is back online and operational. .

Re: The Flamboyant
Can anyone tell me information about staying at the Flamboyant since it has been rebuilt.
The rooms, apartments - are they worth the rates charged? What are the facilities like now and how are they for service and quality? How were you treated by the staff and management during your visit? Any other comments you may want to tell us before making reservations? Much appreciated.

Re: The Flamboyant
I have to assume that no one out there in cyberland has stayed at the Flamboyant Hotel in the last12 months?
I don't think so, members! Some of you have surely stayed at the Flamboyant. Please enlighten us?

Re: The Flamboyant
Returned yesterday after spending one week at the Monmot followed by one week at the Flamboyant. I thought that the Flamboyant was an excellent place to stay (as was the Monmot). We found the rooms spotlessly clean (well immediately after the cleaner had been in every day, after that it was our own fault!). The location has to be one of the best on the island. It?s a shame about the roadside power cables which can get in the way of the view from some rooms, but you soon get used to them, and the same can be said for almost anywhere on the island.
We found the staff and management very friendly and helpful. Any problems we had (such as a sticking door lock in the bathroom) were rectified immediately. I was really impressed with the space and the facilities in our rooms which included a fridge, kettle, toaster, microwave and a juicer. I also liked the fact that the hotel provides towels for use on the beach as well as at the (large and deep) pool. The children (and I) enjoyed the free canoes and pedelo and also the free pool table in the beachside bar. I have read about how bad the steps are up from the beach, but you can?t expect to get a view like that without the hotel being up on a hillside! Besides, you can just dial 0 from the beach bar and they will send down their special vehicle to pick you up and take you to your room (again, for free) although I never tried this out. The hotel buildings are all surrounded by very nice and well kept gardens which really add to the ambience of the hotel, although one downside of this is that a lot of leaves and flowers get blown into the pool throughout the day, but I think it?s a price worth paying. We found the food good (breakfasts were excellent), although as we were only on bed and breakfast, so only ate in the hotel on a couple of evenings and a couple of lunches. Yet again, the view from the restaurant would be very hard to beat. We certainly intend to return. |

Re: The Flamboyant
Thanks for your review, Mike. It was good to hear you were happy with your choices and the island.
As far as the Monmot goes, you didn't say too much. I would be interested to hear your expanded comments as regards this hotel. the pluses and minuses and the food and staff, etc. Thanks again, .

On my opinion the Flamboyant was worth the money and efford ( 6000 miles one way ) This is partly due strong euro , but the location , view , friendliness of the people played a big role . If the rates go up then it is a different story . My wife told me " this place is better than Mauritius in the Indian Ocean " . Anyway You can`t go terribly wrong which ever hotel You choose , Grenada is such a beautifull place . In July trees and flowers were blooming . We enjoyed the landscape and the sea . There was a nice breeze so it didn`t feel uncomfortably hot . It was about 30 Celcius . If You are looking for relaxation and pampering , in our experience You have good chances of finding it at the Flamboyant . |
