PORT LOUIS

A WELCOME, NEW DEVELOPMENT FOR GRENADA

On the morning of Wednesday, October 11, 2006 a press conference introduced to Grenadians and the world that a massive new facelift for Grenada was forthcoming.

It is named, Port Louis by its British developer and mentor, Peter de Savary. The Port Louis Project is wide-reaching and will be extremely beneficial to the growth of Grenada. Included in this huge undertaking are the purchases of the Lagoon Marina, Mount Edgecombe Estate in St, Mark's, Tufton Hall Estate, Cinnamon Hill Resort and surrounding property in the Grand Anse/Morne Rouge area and Azzurra Villa to house potential investors et al, and one residence for Mr. de Savary to be used as ahome away from home. Work has already begun by Peter de Savary's able bodied crew. There are also many other places and areas involved as you will see in the press release that we have reprinted below with their kind permission.

On a personal note, I think this project is a win win situation for Grenada and its residents. It is an exciting and bold move that has been awaited and much needed in Grenada for many years.

The question that always pops into one's head on this sort of news release is, "What about the financing for such a massive development?" Well folks, according to the developer and the Government of Grenada, the financing is already in place. Mr. Peter de Savary has done the ever necessary legwork, and he has been hard at work in Grenada and many other places since April 2006 making sure that Port Louis is on sound footings and will be successfully completed in record time.

In fact, One day after the official signing of the agreement, Peter de Savary's crew was busy working on the Lagoon Marina part of the project. Now, that is something that doesn't happen too often with developers and their projects in Grenada! Some have signed contracts with government years ago and nothing has happened yet. Not so with the de Savary group.

It's a first class operation that will, in my opinion, be a Port of Grenada facelift, a complete yet historically sensitive makeover, and has all the ingredients to put Grenada at the top of Caribbean vacation destinations.

As new releases or news is made available to us, we will post the information here on this thread. You will notice that I have started this forum specifically to keep current on the Port Louis Project. We ask that members confine their replies here to the project, and please do not bring other subjects into this area; with our thanks for your co-operation.

Please read on below and see for yourself. You will be astounded at what Peter de Savary has accomplished during his adult life. Your comments and opinions are welcome either pro or con. We encourage you to reply below with your thoughts on the project.

PORT LOUIS

DE SAVARY GROUP AND PORT LOUIS PROJECT

PORT LOUIS
Executive Summary

A unique opportunity to invest in The West Indies.

Grenada is on the brink of a tourism boom and the Port Louis project, with its broad mix portfolio of residential, retail, hotel and marina properties is ideally positioned to maximize on this.

Grenada is perhaps the most friendly and scenic island in the West Indies and should be the number one hideaway tourist island in the Caribbean. ?A gem of an Island?. Grenada is but 140 miles from Barbados and offers a beautiful mountainous countryside with beaches and a very friendly population.

From its location rising high above the capital town of St George, a ?Mediterraneanesque? town with quaint waterfront Georgian homes and businesses, the natural lagoon to the East forms a perfect safe haven for yachts of all sizes. To the west the views out across the crystal clear, turquoise blue, Caribbean Sea and back towards the white sands of Grand Anse beach are breathtaking.

Port Louis will offer a wide range of options for investors, travelers, holiday makers, yachtsmen and prospective home owners. With improved airlift Grenada and the Port Louis project will have an appeal to an international and diverse clientele.

The focal point of the site will undoubtedly be the rebirth and construction of a new "Islander Hotel" rising up from the beach, once a landmark establishment in the country. Sitting on the highest point with panoramic views this world class five star hotel (125 rooms) will exude all the charm, sophistication and attention to detail of the grand hotels of yesteryear whilst expressing the charm of Grenada.

Further down and around the hillside a variety of real estate opportunities will exist from beach front home sites sitting high above Pandy Beach with spectacular sunset views, to fully furnished villas, townhouses and apartments looking down into the hustle and bustle of the luxury marina, the Port Louis village and the entire downtown waterfront.

While a five star historic hotel will be the centerpiece of the hilltop, additional opportunities also exist for other styles of hoteliers within the site. Pandy Beach will be restored and improved to a quality that will rival the best in the West Indies.

The most Northerly point of the property has commanding views directly into the picturesque, historic, waterfront town of St. George, said by many to be the Portofino of the Caribbean. Here we will create the Saint George?s Yacht Club, which will be the focal point for international yachting activities, sporting, social and dining experiences. This prestigious international club will present an opportunity for local residents as well as the island?s international homeowners and hotel guests to join in the spirit of camaraderie of like minded people.

Port Louis will offer a hospitality experience on many levels and for all walks of life. However there will be one commonality that will adhere the entire project and will be the marketing focus and the international identity of the development to the international tourist, this being the Santa Maria Spa.

At Port Louis we will create and operate the best spa in the Caribbean by attracting an internationally renowned management and spa brand. Not only will we offer the regular menu of spa treatments and facilities but as an alternative to the main Santa Maria Spa guests will be able to experience an ?at one with nature? outpost eco spa lodged high in the Grenadian tropical rainforests at an historic plantation only 35 minutes from Port Louis. This eco friendly spa based on organic and herbal treatments is intended to indulge guests for a twenty four hour ?adventure? including donkey trekking to a tropical waterfall.

The last three miles of your journey to this ?Outpost? Spa set the scene as you leave the almost biblical fishing town of Victoria and begin to wind your way up through the lower reaches of the tropical rain forest. The air cools, the birds call and the peace and serenity surround you. With the river babbling beside you one recent visitor commented that they felt they were climbing a ?stairway to heaven?.

Here, in the grounds of a historic plantation, guests will reside in humble mountain cottages, bathe in sulphur rich pools, marvel at the flora and fauna of a tropical rainforest and find their inner peace in this ?garden of Eden. A place to reflect as a ?human being? rather than a ?human doing?.

The Santa Maria Spa at Port Louis built on the cliff edge in the shadow of an ancient and magnificent Cotton Wood Tree, ?The Tree of Life?, will include studios for dance, stretch, yoga, Pilates and the like, saunas, steam rooms and a myriad of alternative ways to heal and enjoy spa treatments in an indoor or outdoor tropical garden setting. Both locations of this truly holistic spa will provide full service restaurants offering healthy, organic choices fresh from the farms and waters of Grenada. The hotel and village restaurants will afford a wide variety of cuisine to complement the healthy life style option.

The lagoon at Port Louis, a natural volcanic crater once landlocked, and the site of the first settlement on the island in 1709, will be home to the world class Lagoon Marina. This 350 berth marina will offer full docking facilities for all types and sizes of crafts, including mega yachts up to 85 metres (Approx. 280 feet). Grenada, being outside of the commonly known ?hurricane belt? has always been a safe haven for yachtsmen of the Caribbean, especially during the months of July through to November. The sailing around the islands of the Grenadines and West Indies is also considered by many yachtsmen to be the best in the world. The area is now also known among scuba divers as one of their Meccas. The quality of the marina will attract yachts and their owners from around the world to what will be the preeminent yachting facility in the Caribbean.

Accompanying the marina and operating in harmony with the hotel and residential community is the Marina Village. This will provide a host of opportunities for local Grenadians as well as international investors.

From chic apartment buildings neighboring retail stores, working in harmony with market stalls and indigenous artisans, there will also be tourist retail shops, grocery stalls, a medical centre, waterside restaurants and bars. This vibrant, colorful marina village will be the place to look for nightlife in Port Louis.

The Marina Village will also be the base for the numerous aquatic activities on offer at Port Louis. From the 100 foot, West Indian classic styled, gaff rigged schooner, custom made for Port Louis by ?the men from Carriacou? to an array of fishing boats, dive boats, day sail boats and island cruisers, the Marina will be the hub of boating activities and opportunities.

The golfers have not been forgotten. Just fifteen minutes from Port Louis, Tom Mackenzie, who has previously designed and constructed seven championship golf courses with Peter de Savary, has just begun designing a new eighteen-hole seaside course within the grounds of a Four Season?s resort at Mount Hartman. At the Four Season?s golf course Port Louis will build its own golf clubhouse exclusively for its clientele. This spectacular piece of land should produce one of the Caribbean?s top courses.

The entire Port Louis project will act as a catalyst to the capital city injecting a much needed burst of energy, igniting a domino effect which will result in a complete revitalization of the town of St George, positioning it once again as the ?Gustavia? of the Southern Caribbean.

Summary of the facilities

Yacht club offering ship registry, local and international membership and affiliations with its own clubhouse and events.

Partnership with local industry such as diving and snorkeling excursions to the many reefs and local wrecks, eco tours and mountain hiking, distillery and chocolate factory visits and island cruising.

Access to an 18-hole signature golf course and private clubhouse at the neighboring Four Seasons Resort at Mount Harman.

Market evaluation

Grenada stands alone in the West Indies as it has all of the attributes of a number of its neighboring countries all on one island ? the beaches of Barbados, the terrain of Dominica, the international access of Antigua yet it stands alone in its friendly, welcoming, understanding and willing population who recognize the needs and wants of the international tourist and are ready, willing and able to cater to their imminent arrival.

There are only 1,700 total hotel keys in Grenada at this time and this incorporates every hotel, motel, guest house and bed and breakfast. There are just over 120 high end rooms and 500 mid range rooms, the rest being budget type. Currently there are no international hotel or resort groups represented but this is about to change with the arrival of Four Season?s and Peter de Savary and his partner, Ritz Carlton.

Port Louis will be the bench mark by which others set their standards in Grenada. It will be the first new major investment to start and must cooperate with government and the local community for the benefit of everyone. It will also be uniquely positioned to grab the full attention of the international media.

Not only can we showcase an emerging and unspoiled opportunity to the American market but also with its rich history the Canadian, British and European markets are also within easy reach as well as the South American, specifically Venezuelan market, which is as yet untapped.

Peter de Savary, will lead his proven team and many, many Grenadians on a fast track of action. The development will commence immediately.

Grenada and the Grenadines

Grenada, called the ?Spice Isle?, is one of the most beautiful and lush islands in the Caribbean. It is approximately 340 square kilometers in size and has a spectacular variety of natural topography from stunning beaches and natural coral reefs to the heights of Mt Catherine with its tropical forests, rivers, waterfalls and natural pools.

The capital of Grenada, St George is known as one of the most quaint and attractive in the Caribbean some calling it the ?Portofino? or ?St Tropez? of the Caribbean. The ambiance and feel is that of colonial British and French times with the architecture still very Georgian in design encapsulating and emphasizing that ?stuck in time? feeling.

The climate is tropical, and enjoyable throughout the year, tempered as it is by northeast trade winds and due to its southerly position is considered outside the traditional Caribbean hurricane belt.

Grenada, now independent with a democratically elected government, further benefits from membership of the Commonwealth and Caricom, the Caribbean free trade organization. Total population including outer islands is approximately one hundred thousand. English is the official language and the currency is Eastern Caribbean dollar (pegged at EC$2.70 to the US Dollar since 1976) which is shared with 7 other neighboring states.

Grenada relies on the tourism industry as its main source of foreign exchange, which opportunity was greatly increased in 1985 with a brand new international airport boasting a 9,000 foot runway, state of the art control tower, and a clean modern terminal for all commercial arrivals and departures. An improved airlift will be crucial to the successful future of Grenada; and with new internationally backed projects and government support expanded airline services can be realized.

Additionally we are building an FBO (fixed base operation for private aircraft) with V.I.P. lounge and dedicated customs and immigration for quick, easy arrival and departure.
Exports include natural resources such as cocoa, nutmeg, mace, bananas, fishing, coffee, forestry and rum distillation. One of the smaller, more enjoyable exports from the country is locally made organic dark chocolate which is available in Harrod?s food hall.

This is a stable, democratic, emerging nation poised for imminent and sustained growth in tourism. The opportunities for Grenadians will be dynamic, providing many new jobs, careers, training and the opportunity to benefit the Grenadian community at large. The Port Louis project will commence development immediately and, led by Peter de Savary, will become an internationally acclaimed reality achieved by Grenadians.

A STATEMENT OF INTENT BY PETER DE SAVARY

PORT LOUIS

An EC$1.5 billion mixed use resort maritime community development. Port Louis will capture the essence and spirit of Grenada and particularly St Georges and the harbour and be a flagship for the country.

An investment of this scale and nature will result in an overall economic impact not seen before in Grenada.

With buildings designed to compliment and enhance the current Grenadian architecture, the project will endeavour to create a community of mixed development including marine, residential, commercial, retail, hotels recreational and hospitality aspects.

The project will include:

*350 slip world class marina with yachting facilities for yachts up to 90 metres.
* 36 estate lots for individual houses.
* 280 residential units varying in size and use from turnkey 2400sqft homes to more modest 900sqft village apartments.
* A 120 room 5-star hotel with all the amenities of a luxury establishment (such as Ritz Carlton).
* A world class premier spa and well being lifestyle centre for Port Louis residents and other visitors to Grenada.
* A 120 room mid range hotel catering to the tourist market (such as Marriot).
* Revitalisation of the southern end of the lagoon area including the reclamation and renovation of the seafront.
* Revitalisation and augmentation of Pandy Beach to compliment that of Grand Anse including water sports, beach extension, diving and other elements.
* Employment prospects of between 500-800 staff with excellent training and career opportunities for Grenadians.

Within the Caribbean and West Indies, Port Louis will be a unique comprehensive village community of charm and character including a vibrant market with a waterfront of exciting activities.

The Port Louis development will have significant benefits to the economy, local businesses and the community at large whilst sensitively respecting the environment and beauty of its location.

MOUNT CINNAMON

Cinnamon Hill, with its prime location on Grenada?s most famous beach, will provide a first class hotel, residential, retail and recreational development to compliment the already successful hotel and tourist area of Morne Rouge and Grand Anse.

Whilst still very premature in design and development, it is estimated that there will be:

* 21 completely renovated and furnished apartments with pool and clubhouse amenities to hopefully meet the demand for the Cricket World Cup. We envisage:
* A positive cash impact of about EC$22 million for the National Insurance Scheme.
* Further cash flow to the Crown from the sale of two adjacent plots.
* A total development value of over EC$600 million resulting in very substantial economic and community benefits.
* The creation of about 200 hotel rooms in the 3/4 star category and all the appurtenant recreational facilities, creating more availability for the international tourist market.
* Attractive architecture and tropical garden landscaping.
* A residential element of up to a possible 300 units aimed mainly at the fractional ownership and whole ownership market.
* The creation of 400-600 jobs in due course.

Cinnamon Hill will be sensitively designed and landscaped to respect the environment and the natural beauty of Grand Anse beach and will blend attractively within the landscape.

MOUNT EDGECOMBE PLANTATION

* Currently employs 12 staff.
* Endeavouring to restore in Grenada a most beautiful private working plantation producing every fruit and vegetable that can be found on the island.
* To help regenerate the Western Coast of the island (specifically St. Marks) through other initiatives but specifically to include the creation of Grenada?s first ECO natural holistic spa.

This will serve as an outpost to the Port Louis spa and well being lifestyle centre with about 20 guest rooms and spa services second to none set in pristine tropical rainforest at one with nature and its surroundings whilst providing a natural, organic and back to nature experience.

FBO

An evaluation is underway to determine the viability of creating Grenada?s first Fixed Base Operation (FBO) providing the necessary services and amenities to all private aircraft and complimenting the current airport operation. There would also be a restaurant and bar in a scenic setting. This FBO facility will greatly assist in the exposure and face of Grenada as an international destination for vacation and investment alike.

Construction staff will be required and, once operational about 30 persons varying from immigration, Customs & Excise, aircraft technicians, baggage handlers, ground staff, reception and restaurant workers will be employed.

Peter de Savary is quoted as follows: ?Grenada needs and will have new investment which must be based on quality not quantity. Care must be taken to protect the culture of Grenada and to not overload the infrastructure of the country or spoil its charm and beauty and, above all, the friendliness of its people; I am thus committed?.

Re: PORT LOUIS - Lagoon Marina & Hotels Development

Just to let people know that work HAS started, we?ve been here seven years and have had a few projects announced with great fanfare but nothing ever seemed to come of them, this time however, from my vantage point from my ?Office? at the GYC bar, the whole of the old GYS (Grenada Yacht Services) has been demolished and the ground cleared. Notice has gone out to boats anchored close to the remains of the ?Piles? that was the jetties, to move to allow a vessel in to remove them. Everyone I?ve spoke to is happy that, at last, ?It will happen? and wish Mr de Savary well.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the update on the project. I'm hoping to hear from you lots in the future on this. Your position at the "office" is good for both visual and audio updates.

By the way, will there be any change in the status of the GYC because of this project?

Jim

Re: PORT LOUIS - Lagoon Marina & Hotels Development

Hi Ryan,

Yes, it seems to be a good project. It takes in much of Grenada, not just the marina. Let's hope that Peter de Savary and his group can make this one fly like a rocket. Grenada needs this kind of investment badly at this time of rebuilding. We are losing out on a whole bunch of golfing visitors which is a crime.

Cool Re: PORT LOUIS - Lagoon Marina & Hotels Development

Howdy Jim,
My sentiments exactly !!
We could take the Florida turn pike drive from Orlando to Miami International Air Port and catch a BWIA jet to Trinidad and connect on by BWIA to Grenada. That stop over and some times sleep over in Puerto Rico just wipes me out. Some times you are just plumb lucky to get a seat on the A/A Eagle prop plane to Gda, not to mention luggage been left behind. Must get there as my family there is aging rapidly. I particularly love good food, good beers,a reasonable rental car in Grenada, and good resturant service for which I tip accordingly. That "lobster thermidor meal" on your site is available where in Grenada?

Ryan......fellow Grenadian......

Admin - Coconut beach & Aquarium. - BJ

Sorry Ryan, we are off topic here. As said above, I wanted to keep this topic solely for the Port Louis project. - BJ

There was a highly successful sod-turning and tree-planting last Saturday afternoon which generated a great deal of interest --- AND OPTIMISM!
This event plus the significant work that has already been done in the marina area is another indication of the resolve of the Peter de Savary group to complete the Port Louis Project in a timely manner. This project will be a boon to Grenada in many ways.

Port Louis project to transform the Grenadian tourism sector

ST. GEORGE?S, Grenada (eTN) -- ?Today?s ceremony marks a watershed! It?s a transformation! It?s a new beginning for the island tourism sector.? This was the message from Grenadian Finance Minister Anthony Boatswain when he addressed the sod turning ceremony to signal the start of the island?s biggest tourism project.

?We are certain that this project will enhance Grenada?s tourism, something that every Grenadian will be proud off,? Boatwain said, explaining that Port Louis will transform the Lagoon Road especially the site and surrounding areas that formerly house the Grenada Yacht Services.

Describing the investment as one that will affect the entire island because of the amount of money involved Boatwsain, who spoke on by behalf of Prime Minister Keith Mitchell, said that the total investment will be twice the annual budget.

He used the opportunity to remind hoteliers present at the ceremony that this new project will not overshadow their facility. ?Your hotels will continue to be flagship hotels for the country,? he said to the cross section of tourism players including Sir Royston Hopkin.

Tourism Minister Brenda Hood said that this project is not one by chance but one that was destined for Grenada. ?We welcome such a project, we believe in the sustainability of the tourism industry and we know that this project has the power to change the tourism landscape forever,? she said.

Undertaken by well known international entrepreneurial business Peter de Savary, the Port Louis project, which is an investment of EC$1.5 billion, will offer a wide range of options for investors, travelers, holiday makers, yachtsmen and prospective home owners.

The project will include 350 slip world class marina with yachting facilities for yachts up to 980 meters; 36 estate lots for individual houses, 280 resident units varying in size and use from turnkey 24000 square feet homes to more modest village apartments; a 120 five start hotel with all the amenities of a luxury establishment as well as an 120 room middle range hotel catering.

The project will also see the revitalization of the southern end of the lagoon area including reclamation and renovation of the seafront and employment of up to 800 persons.

DeSavary, who along with his mother and government officials participated in the groundbreaking ceremony, said that the project is a tough one but he is prepared to take the necessary risk to ensure reality. ?I am a risk-taker and I look forward to tackling the challenges ahead to ensure that the skeptics becomes supporters and supporters become partners,? he said.

Stressing the need for quality above quantity, de Savary, who is the founder of the St. James Clubs hotels located in Antigua, London, Paris, Los Angeles and New York, said, ?Grenada needs and will have new investment which must be based on quality not quantity. Care must be taken to protect the culture of Grenada and to not overload the infrastructure of the country or spoil its charm and beauty and above all, the friendless of its people; I am committed.?

Apart from the Port Louis project, de Savary will also be upgrading Cinnamon Hill Hotels and the Mt Edgecombe Plantation in St. Mark.

Mitchell says new tourism project will put Grenada on the map

Tuesday, November 21, 2006
Source: Caribbean Net News

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada: Grenada's Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell has hailed the start of the biggest tourism project ever to be undertaken in Grenada as one which will bring benefits to all Grenadians.

Breaking Ground by Peter de Savary and Brenda Hood, Minister of Tourism

Peter de Savary (R) with Minister of Tourism for
Grenada, Brenda Hood, breaking ground for the
mega project, Port Louis Grenada

Speaking at the Sod Turning Ceremony of the Port Louis Development, Mitchell praised developer Peter de Savary for his interest in Grenada. He recognised de Savary as a developer who was prepared to work with Government and the people to ensure that his developments are not only successful but also add to the prosperity of the destination.

These sentiments were endorsed by Grenada?s Minister of Tourism Brenda Hood. She told the audience that ?Grenada is now poised to become one of the top tourism destinations in the Caribbean.?

Hood complemented the local hoteliers, restaurateurs, tour guides and other service providers for shaking off the impact of Hurricane Ivan. She said ?our tourism product is being developed by resilient, creative and hardworking people who are prepared to place the needs of their country first. I want to say that in almost every case persons have built back their businesses better. We have not been daunted by Ivan, we now are at a point where our facilities and services are better that they have ever been.?

The Minister also noted that there was now very serious tourism investment taking place in Grenada. She cited the Port Louis Grenada project, as a shining example of the level of investment which Grenada was now attracting.

In his turn to speak, de Savary noted that his group was not interested in making Grenada another Dubai or Las Vegas but was instead focussed on creating a high quality, unique product. De Savary also described the many rewards which Port Louis would bring to Grenada. He described Port Louis Grenada as not just a unique club for wealthy persons but a high class development which would result in business and jobs for a wide variety of persons from all sections of the population.

Smile Re: PORT LOUIS - Lagoon Marina & Hotels Development

I?ve just got back from the UK where I had a few running repairs done to the "bodywork", as of today, there is a barge in the lagoon removing all the old "Piles" that were the jetties of the old Grenada Yacht Services. There has been extensive excavation work carried out, and the whole of the GYS has been cleared.

As I only live a one minute drive to pandy beach, look forward to not having to drive the three minutes to the yacht club to get a cold beer. The saving in gas will be nice.

Re: PORT LOUIS - Lagoon Marina & Hotels Development

Hi Tony & Gisela,

We do thank you for the updates on the project. You are our eyes and ears in Grenada, and it is really great getting up to date information from you on a regular basis.

You are saying there is a bar on Pandy Beach. Could you please give me some information on it (name, location, type of bar, e.g. beach, or in house, or small hotel bar, and how big is it, etc.)

It's a good idea to save gas at the prices they charge for gas in Grenada these days. What are they charging at the pumps currently? It was $11.39 EC per gallon the last time I was there.

Thanks again,

Jim

Grenada is on the brink of a tourism boom and the Port Louis project, with its broad mix portfolio of residential, retail, hotel and marina properties will enhance the island?s appeal when completed in two years? time.

Undertaken by British billionaire Peter de Savary, the Port Louis project, which is an investment of EC$1.5 billion (?300m), will offer a wide range of options for investors, travellers, holiday makers, yachtsmen and prospective home owners.

The project will include a world class marina; 36 estate lots for individual houses, 280 resident units varying in size and use from 24,000 square feet mansions to more modest village apartments; a 120-room five-star hotel with all the amenities of a luxury establishment.

The project will also see the revitalisation of the southern end of the lagoon area including reclamation and renovation of the seafront and employment of up to 800 people. Completion is expected by late 2008.

De Savary, who along with his mother and government officials participated in the groundbreaking ceremony, said that the project is a tough one but he is prepared to take the necessary risk to ensure reality. ?I am a risk-taker and I look forward to tackling the challenges ahead to ensure that the sceptics becomes supporters and supporters become partners,? he said.

Stressing the need for quality above quantity, de Savary, who is the founder of the St James Clubs hotels in Antigua, London, Paris, Los Angeles and New York, said: ?Grenada needs and will have new investment which must be based on quality not quantity. Apart from the Port Louis project, de Savary will also be upgrading Cinnamon Hill Hotels and the Mt Edgecombe Plantation in St Mark.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell said: ?Grenada is now poised to become one of the top tourism destinations in the Caribbean.?

Tourism Minister Brenda Hood complemented the local hoteliers, restaurateurs, tour guides and other service providers for shaking off the impact of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.

She said: ?Our tourism product is being developed by resilient, creative and hardworking people who are prepared to place the needs of their country first.

?I want to say that in almost every case persons have built back their businesses better. We have not been daunted by Ivan, we now are at a point where our facilities and services are better that they have ever been.'

History in the making in Grenada as construction for luxury hotel begins

History in the making in Grenada as construction for luxury hotel begins

Source: Caribbean Net News
Wednesday, December 13, 2006

ST GEORGE?S, Grenada: History was in the making on Monday as the old Islander Hotel in Grenada was demolished to start construction on a high-end luxury 120 room resort. This resort will be part of the Port Louis Grenada development. Minister of Tourism, Brenda Hood says an investment of this type will have a huge impact on jobs and economic activity.

Hood speaking from the site on Monday also said that the project will attract a new type of tourism for the island of Grenada. She commented that it is expected to create a new niche for Grenada where the country can focus on high end tourism.

This resort along with properties and developments such as Spice Island Beach Resort, Calivigny Island, Mount Cinnamon, Prickly Bay Marina and La Luna will put Grenada amongst the best in the world. The new hotel will command spectacular views of the St George?s harbour, Grand Anse and Pandy Beach.

Richard Hallam, Operations and Development for Port Louis Grenada commented that Peter de Savary is very pleased and delighted that almost 8 weeks after signing agreements with the Government of Grenada and with great assistance from the government; they are able to begin demolishing and begin rebuilding the Islander Hotel.

Hallam also noted that work has begun on the Port Louis Marina which will be able to berth mega yachts and that the first mega yacht which belongs to de Savary is expected to arrive in the New Year.

15/12/06 View from the ?Office?
What appears to be the new marina bar is certainly taking shape. By the look of it, should be open sometime in late January 2007. Which, would coincide with the press release that, Peter de Savary's own boat will be there.
The present bar on ?Pandy? beach is NOT one that I would recommend to visitors, okay during daylight hours for a quick beer, but at night???????

Interview on Grenada Radio/Internet Show with Peter de Savary

Last Sunday the 17th of December, 2006 the 3 hour internet and radio program direct from Grenada, "Sundays with George Grant" carried a two part interview with Peter de Savary, the chairman of the Savvy Group. PdeS, as he is known, is proceeding at full speed with the EC$1.5 billion dollar project, Port Louis.

The interview gives the listeners an idea of who and why PdeS is. It also delves into the many facets of the Port Louis project, but the most important thing I got out of the interview was the genuine, warm, down to earth personality of Peter de Savary which is quite refreshing. He seems to emanate true feelings of closeness and empathy for Grenada and its people, and he is very clear on his reasons for doing the project in Grenada.

I am impressed by PdeS, and sincerely suggest to those of you who are interested in seeing inside PdeS and the Port Louis project, and what it can do for Grenada's tourism industry and Grenada's people, whatever level of life they are in, to go to: Grenada Broadcast.com and have a listen to both parts of the interview. On the home page you will find links by scrolling down on the left hand side panel of the page to the "Media Files" where you will find clips for both parts 1 and 2 of the Peter de Savary interview. Just click on the clips and a new page will appear with playback controls.

Ritz-Carlton Officials visit Port Louis and Mount Cinnamon Grenada

Ritz-Carlton Officials visit Port Louis and Mount Cinnamon Grenada

St. George's, Grenada (Friday, January 26th 2007)

The Marriot / Ritz-Carlton Group recently accepted an invitation from Peter de Savary to visit Grenada to experience and understand Grenada's tourism industry, culture and to view the developments currently well underway at Port Louis and Mount Cinnamon.

The delegation was delighted with the progress of Peter de Savary's projects and was equally impressed with the beauty of the island and friendliness of the Grenadian people. There is great optimism on both sides about the possibility of another joint venture similar to the one which exists between Ritz-Carlton and Peter de Savary at The Abaco Club on Winding Bay in the Bahamas. www.abacoclub.com

Mr. Peter de Savary said: We intend to develop two luxury developments and relish the possibility to work with The Ritz-Carlton Group as our partners in creating two world-class hotels and residential properties. It would be a huge benefit for Grenada to be associated with The Marriot/Ritz-Carlton Group.

Grenada would be the only island in the Caribbean having both The Ritz-Carlton Group and Four Seasons. This can be seen as a stamp of approval for the country and for its positioning in the world tourism market.

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is an independently operated division of Marriot International and it is among the grand 5-star hotels in the world. They operate 63 hotels worldwide in 21 countries and are known for the finest in hotel accommodations, opulent surroundings and legendary service.

De Savary Spends 3 Million U.S to Clean Up the Lagoon at Port Louis Site

St. George's, Grenada (Saturday, February 3rd 2007)

In an effort to return the lagoon and marina at Port Louis to its former pristine state, developer Mr. Peter de Savary has embarked on a massive clean up campaign. The Port Louis marina developer estimates that over 3 million U.S. dollars has already been spent to remove a large amount of junk from the area including metal scrap, sunken and abandoned boats and the remains of the old Grenada Yacht Services dock. I have listened to many persons in Grenada who have told me stories of the former beauty of this place, we want to restore this beauty and then enhance it with our project, said Mr. De Savary.

Marina and Communications Manager for Port Louis Mr. Danny Donelan added to Mr. De Savarys comments by emphasising the significance that the De Savary group was placing on the environment. The environment is one of our main priorities. While we build and develop this beautiful area we will do so in an environmentally conscious way as we have always done with our projects. This is why we are placing so much emphasis on the clean up process. We also have to ensure that the waters of the marina are in perfect shape to berth the many yachts which we expect for World Cup Cricket 2007, said Donelan.

While the clean up job is a massive one Donelan noted that he is very pleased with the cooperation of the fishing and catamaran boat owners who presently use the marina to berth their boats. Donelan stated that the owners have been very supportive to Mr. de Savary and his team, so as to allow the steady progress of work in the area. We take this opportunity to thank them for their co-operation.

GRENADA SAILING HIGH

St. George's, Grenada - (Thursday, April 5th 2007) - Grenada is being marketed at some of the world's biggest and most prestigious boat shows. Savvy Grenada has started a new and innovative marketing campaign to promote Grenada and Port Louis at these mega events. Marina and Communications Manager Danny Donelan who joined the team in December, is just back from the St. Barths Bucket Regatta. He says this type of marketing is unprecedented for Grenada. These shows attract the world?s largest and most luxurious mega yachts. The owners and passengers on these yachts are no doubt some of the richest and most high profile persons on the planet. Every time we attend a boat show we bear this in mind. We want these exclusive tourists to visit Grenada as tourists and to invest in our tourism product, Donelan remarked.

Over the last six months Donelan has attended the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Miami Boat Show, and the Colin Stewart London Boat Show and will attend the Antigua Boat Show at the end of April. We will continue to market Grenada at the world?s best boat shows, but we are also positioning ourselves to create a unique boating experience at Port Louis. In the very near future we will be welcoming many of these mega yachts to Port Louis. We want to take the best elements of the global yachting experience and create a unique Grenadian product here that will meet and exceed the best standards in the industry, Donelan noted.

Savvy Grenada has been on a major campaign to create awareness and interest in Grenada's tourism product. Last month Savvy published "Grenada Life", a seventy page high quality magazine capturing Grenada in colourful stories and stunningly beautiful pictures. Over 150,000 copies of this magazine have been distributed to some of the world's most influential travelers. Additionally, Savvy produced 150 000 copies of a Grenada post card which was also sent to some of the world's most prolific travelers. Savvy has also branded its mega yacht, the "M.Y. Savvy" and its executive aircraft, Nutmeg One, with the Grenada flag and colours.

Savvy Grenada has committed itself to finding creative and innovative ways to promote Port Louis, Mt. Cinnamon and Grenada.
